When you were discussing the bathroom plans with your contractor was this really the picture you had in your mind? It's okay if it was, we are not judging you.....well....maybe a little.....ok.......we are laughing and hope you are too.
But really, does contractor insurance cover poor workmanship? If you walked into your bathroom and it looked like this and you really were in shock you are asking yourself this question...and the answer is no. The coverage for contractors' mandatory general liability insurance usually does not cover poor workmanship. Your homeowners insurance doesn't cover it either. Either your contractor agrees to repair it at his expense, or you'll have to pay someone else to redo the work, then if a resolution cannot be reached litigation may follow.
The best way to protect yourself is to hire a good contractor. Ask the contractor for references from prior jobs that he has done and follow through with contacting them. Talk with your friends and family and see who they have used for work in their homes and ask if they were happy with the work performed. If you are thinking of hiring someone for a project in your home and you do have questions regarding insurance, don't hesitate to contact our office to discuss it with one of our insurance experts.
